This degree is designed for students with interests in the fields of biodiversity, biological systematics, evolution, ecology, and organismal biology, including the fields of botany, zoology, environmental biology, and conservation biology.

Major Requirements

Students may opt for either a B.S. or B.A. degree. Both the B.S. and B.A. degrees in EEB require a full sequence of introductory Biology and general Chemistry but only the B.S degree requires Calculus and Physics.

Core Requirements: complete all of the following:

  • CHEM 1127Q/1128Q (8 cr. total) or CHEM 1124Q/1125Q/1126Q (10 cr. total)
  • BIOL 1107 & 1108 (8 cr. total) [Note – BIOL 1110 may be used in place of 1108]

24-Credit Group: Complete at least 24 credits of 2000-level or higher EEB courses with an average GPA of 2.0 or higher. The 24-credit group includes 2000-level or higher courses from the EEB core requirements above. Students may apply no more than 3 independent study credits toward their 24-credit group.

Related Courses: Complete at least 12 credits of 2000-level or higher related course credits outside EEB, including MCB 2410. Students can use PNB 2250 and PLSC 4210 as related courses since they fulfill the physiology requirement. Other courses can be used as Relateds with approval of assigned advisor.

Suggested Courses: While not required, EEB majors are encouraged to complete a course in statistics. It is also suggested that students complete one semester of Organic Chemistry.

Major requirements and restrictions:

  • To keep track of graduation requirements, review your Academic Requirements Report (“Advisement Report”) in Student Admin.
  • Use the EEB Requirements Worksheet, General Education Audit Sheet, and Major Sample Sequence to keep track of general education requirements & major requirements. These forms list the different requirements for the B.A. and B.S. degree.
  • A maximum of 3 independent study credits from EEB 3899 can count toward the 24 credits in the major.
