Biology Advising Center

WELCOME! Our advisors and student workers are happy to assist students with any advising concerns/questions.

The Biology Advising Center advises about 2000 undergraduate students majoring in Biological Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Physiology and Neurobiology, and Structural Biology and Biophysics.

Advisors are available through scheduled appointments during our regular office hours of Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm.

Advisors also are available daily to answer quick questions during walk-in hours. Walk-in hours are subject to change so please call the office (860.486.3348) to ask about the day’s walk-in schedule or drop by BPB 101.

Scheduling Appointments:

Appointments are made online via NEXUS. Current biology majors should schedule an appointment with their assigned advisor. Prospective students interested in a biology major or minor may meet with any advisor in our office.

Note that honors students who are assigned to a faculty advisor should email their advisor to ask when their office hours are and to request appointments.

Mission Statement:

Academic Advisors promote an active partnership between students and advisors. Advisors provide guidance to students on academic matters and help students navigate the academic and organizational structure of the University. The advising relationship is both consultative and mutually respectful: the advisee should respect the advisor’s suggestions; the advisor is considerate of decisions made by the advisee. The academic advising process supports and promotes the development of students into life-long learners and pro-active, critical thinkers.

Quick Questions:

Walk-in hours are for quick & general questions. Walk-in advisors typically spend 5-10 minutes with students. If your concern can’t be fully addressed during walk-in hours, you’ll be asked to schedule an appointment with an advisor.

Obtaining Advisor Signatures:

You can drop off forms at the Biology Advising Center during office hours.  Once the form has been signed, you will receive an email notifying you that the form is ready for pick-up during office hours.  If your advisor needs to meet with you before they can sign the form, you will receive an email informing you to schedule an appointment.
